Nothin Favourite Manga Nothin	Household gateway anime during 90's were DBZ, YYH & Saint Seiya Though Inuyasha, HXH, OP were equally great But if I wanna intro sumone & NOT be their gateway anime, then here's a list: Bleach: Dude'll delusioned into thinkin Bleach's coolest fkin anime out there & Hollow Ichigo was epitome of badassery when its garbage characterization, filler fiesta, crappy villains covering up its flaws Naruto: Sasuke. Enuf said AoT: I dunno abt Western countries, but most Asean countries prefer tame-themed programmes & AoT isnt one. Its gory & brutal dat could be such a turn-off to any newbie

Because, it really depends on the person being introduced to anime and the person who is introducing anime for someone. For example, if I want to introduce anime to someone. I would first find out the genre he/she is interested in and then make a list of anime that I have seen from those genres. Then I would talk a bit about them. This is mainly done to give them a general idea and scope of the series. And this is where I would also point out some stuff like, if the series contains a lot of fanservice(sexual), panty shots and other stuff like that. This is just to make them aware of it and to make sure they are fine with it. Now, having said that , I also do agree with the notion that certain anime shows shouldn't be recommended for a person who is a complete novice to anime or basically someone who just started out. This mainly refers to certain anime shows that are primarily catered towards the otaku audience or to people who have years of experience with anime and the industry in general. Shows such as, Lucky Star, SKET Dance, Otaku no Video, Martian Successor Nadesico and certain other shows are prime examples of shows that shouldn't be picked up beginners. Now, there is nothing wrong with these shows. In fact, some of them are very good. But, the reason I wouldn't recommend a novice to start out with these type of series is because he/she won't be able to enjoy and understand it completely. A lot of these shows in general are either social commentary about the Japanese culture, the anime industry and the audience, deconstruction of genre, or a deep parody of a genre. Now, don't get me wrong, a lot of the so called 'novice friendly' shows also do contain references and commentaries related to the Japanese audience. But, it is not as prevalent as that it would effect their viewing experience and understanding of the show. So, to sum up, I don't think there really is any universally accepted bad or good gateway anime. But, I do believe in the notion that certain type of anime shows, as I mentioned above, shouldn't be introduced to a person who has just got into anime. Edited by Axl, Nov 23 2017, 05:45 AM.

The fact it was trolling every genre (shounen, shoujo & seinen) & being such light-weight series with super fun characters could be either infectious (pull a newbie into regular viewer-eventual fan) or dismissal as nothing visceral to sink the teeth into But I'd hardly call light-weight series as terrible gateway shows for newbie. Btw, does hentai include? I've come across fair numb of fanboys that were introduced to anime via hentai (Midnight Panther etc) & yeah. Now they're some high-fi anime elitists
